"Get ready for a brand-new Halloween tradition in Downtown Swedesboro!" That's the opening line on Historic Swedesboro's announcement, posted October 7. The tradition is the first-ever Downtown Halloween Passport Adventure, running Saturday, October 31, from noon to 3 p.m. Families carry a passport to twenty participating stops downtown.
You can pick up a passport early at the Woolwich Fire Company Trunk or Treat on October 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. So the two Saturdays are connected this year. The township's Halloween night hands you the ticket to the borough's Halloween afternoon a week later.
What's actually new this year
Historic Swedesboro calls this passport event the "first-ever" in Downtown Swedesboro. Its stated goals are to give families a way to explore downtown, support local businesses, and celebrate together, and the flyer sums it up in three phrases: "Shop Local • Explore Downtown • Celebrate Halloween!"
What makes it more than a downtown promotion is where the passports start. Historic Swedesboro, the organizer, lists its address as 1500 Kings Highway. The Woolwich Fire Company gives its firehouse address as 1517 Kings Highway and says its events are held at the firehouse unless noted otherwise. Both addresses are on the same road. The Fire Company's online schedule doesn't list the Trunk or Treat yet, so treat 1517 Kings Highway as the firehouse address, not a confirmed venue for October 24.
This kind of overlap has happened before. The free community shredding day on November 7 at Swedesboro Auction Park is billed as a Swedesboro/Woolwich event and is limited to residents of the two towns. Woolwich's own calendar lists its Halloween Parade under an organizer called SW Parks and Recreation. What's different in 2026 is that a single Halloween activity now starts at one event and finishes at another.
October 24, hour by hour
Three events share this Saturday. Everything below comes from the township's event listings and the Historic Swedesboro announcement.
| Time | Event | Listed organizer or source |
|---|---|---|
| 9 to 11 a.m. | SWJEC Tree Planting Workshop | Woolwich Township calendar |
| 11 a.m. | Halloween Parade | SW Parks and Recreation |
| 5 to 8 p.m. | Woolwich Fire Company Trunk or Treat, with passport pickup | Historic Swedesboro announcement |
The tree planting workshop ends right before the parade starts, so a family could do both before lunch. The listing gives the parade a start time but no end time, and the Trunk or Treat doesn't begin until 5 p.m., so most of the afternoon is open.
The township's parade listing confirms the date and the 11 a.m. start. It also lists a contact for questions: SW Parks and Recreation at 856-467-2666, extension 3300, or [email protected].
What hasn't been published yet
The posted information is thin in a few places. The township's parade page carries a flyer image, but its text gives no starting point, route, line-up time, costume categories, or rain date. Here's what is still open as of October 12:
- Parade logistics: route, line-up time, and a rain date haven't appeared in the event text. Parks and Recreation's phone line above is the most direct way to ask.
- Trunk or Treat details: the event-specific venue, whether trunk hosts need to register, and a rain date aren't confirmed in anything posted so far.
- Passport stops: Historic Swedesboro says there are twenty participating stops but hasn't named the businesses.
- The payoff: the announcement doesn't say what a completed passport earns.
- Other pickup points: the Trunk or Treat is the only early pickup location named. The page says to "grab yours ahead of time," but it doesn't say whether passports will also be handed out downtown on the 31st.
That last gap matters most for planning. If the Trunk or Treat turns out to be the only distribution point, going on October 24 is the surest way to have a passport in hand on Halloween. Historic Swedesboro's office number on the announcement is (856) 467-0202.
The week in between
The days between the two Saturdays are already filling up, and two events fall in that stretch.
On Sunday, October 25, the day after the parade, Woolwich's calendar lists a Community Wellness Fair starting at noon. The listing doesn't give a venue or activities yet.
On Thursday, October 29, the Swedesboro Public Library hosts "Halloween Blast!" from 7 to 8 p.m. The Gloucester County Library System's event calendar describes crafts, dancing, and refreshments for ages 5 to 12. Each child must be registered, and accompanying adults must stay for the event.
October 31, downtown
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so the passport adventure gets a full afternoon slot. It runs from noon to 3 p.m. Historic Swedesboro's invitation is simple: "grab the kids, put on your favorite costumes," and work through the stops downtown.
The timing also matters. A daytime downtown event that ends at 3 p.m. leaves the rest of the evening free for whatever a household already does on Halloween night. Families who wore costumes to the October 24 parade get a second outing in the same costumes a week later.
Before and after
Two more dates bracket the stretch from the 24th to the 31st.
On Saturday, October 17, Woolwich's calendar lists a Holiday Art & Crafts Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The linked graphic on the Parks and Recreation page is titled "ATP Fall Fair 2026." The venue isn't stated in the text that's been posted. The same Parks and Recreation page also shows a flyer for a "GG Fall Family Night 2026," but the posted text doesn't give its date, time, or location. Keep an eye on that page over the next few weeks.
On Saturday, November 7, the free community shredding event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Swedesboro Auction Park, 101 Leahy Avenue. It's open only to Woolwich and Swedesboro residents. It's not a Halloween event, but it falls on the next Saturday, and it's another case of the two towns sharing a single date.
