For years, the food that left 1130 Commerce Blvd. went out raw. HelloFresh ran the building as a distribution center for its meal kits, the pre-portioned ingredients and recipe cards that customers cook at home. Starting in November, the food leaving the same address is meant to be cooked first.
Wonder, the food hall and meal delivery company, is leasing the building and plans to open it in November 2026 as a combined production and distribution facility, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in September. Your mail and the job listings will say "Swedesboro." The building itself is in Logan Township.
The address stays the same and so does the business of feeding people. The work inside changes completely, from boxing ingredients to chopping, cooking and packaging them. Wonder's own numbers also make it a larger workforce than the one it replaces.
How the meal-kit chapter ended
HelloFresh announced the closure in mid-August. A company spokesperson told the Inquirer that the Swedesboro distribution center would close on September 30, 2026, "following a review of our footprint," and that its operations would move into the company's wider fulfillment network. Patch reported that the site also handled Green Chef, the specialty meal-kit brand HelloFresh bought in 2018.
The state's 2026 WARN notice archive lists the filing under Grocery Delivery E-Services USA/HelloFresh in Swedesboro, with 374 workers affected and an effective date of November 17, 2026. Patch's report gave the year as 2027, but the state archive shows 2026. That date falls later than the September 30 last operating day because the notice tracks when the job losses take effect for employees, not when the floor stopped running. HelloFresh told the Inquirer it would support eligible employees with severance, extended healthcare support, career transition resources and internal transfers where available.
Within about a month, the building had a new tenant lined up.
What moves in, side by side
| HelloFresh | Wonder | |
|---|---|---|
| What the building does | Distributes meal kits of pre-portioned ingredients and recipes | Culinary production plus outbound distribution |
| Workforce figure | 374 on the WARN notice | About 550 roles anticipated |
| Key date | Last operating day Sept. 30, 2026 | Opening planned for November 2026 |
| Building size as reported | 170,000 sq. ft., per NJBIZ | 160,000 sq. ft., per the Inquirer |
The square footage depends on who is counting. NJBIZ gave 170,000 square feet in its HelloFresh coverage, and the Inquirer gave 160,000 for Wonder's lease. On the headcount, Wonder's figure of about 550 roles is roughly 175 more than the 374 jobs on the HelloFresh notice. That is a company projection, not a payroll count, but it points to more people working at the building, not fewer.
Why a kitchen needs more people than a box line
A distribution center mostly moves product that is already packed. Wonder's job listings for 1130 Commerce Boulevard describe a production floor. The Production Operations Manager posting covers "ingredient staging, batch preparation, packaging, labeling, and finished goods transfer to warehouse." It describes coordinating teams across "prep, cook, assembly, packaging, and staging," and then the hand-off to warehouse and logistics crews for outbound shipping. The listing also mentions refrigerated storage, food preparation equipment and strict sanitation and food handling standards.
Each of those steps is staffed, so the same footprint is now projected to hold more than five hundred roles where the HelloFresh notice counted 374.
The listings also hint at when that work happens. Sample postings seen this fall included:
- Production Supervisor: $27.50 an hour, plus a $2 hourly premium for overnight hours worked between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Production Operations Manager: $75,000 to $90,000 a year, with health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) matching and an employee discount listed among benefits.
- Distribution Operations Manager: $75,000 to $90,000 a year.
Job postings change week to week, so these figures show pay at one moment, not standing offers. Still, a pay premium written specifically for 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. tells you the cooking floor on Commerce Boulevard is expected to run through the night.
Why Wonder picked Logan
Wonder is pulling its New Jersey production into this one building. The company filed its own WARN notice covering 533 employees at its North Jersey sites. PhillyVoice and the Inquirer identified them as Cranford, Parsippany and Fairfield, with the job losses spread from September 16, 2026, through January 8, 2027. None of those layoffs are in Logan. Logan is where the work is going.
A Wonder spokesperson explained the move in a statement quoted by the Inquirer:
"To set our supply chain up for long-term growth, Wonder made the strategic decision to transition away from our existing New Jersey facilities and move into a new, higher-capacity facility in Swedesboro, New Jersey."
According to the same report, eligible North Jersey employees will receive severance and outplacement services and can reapply for positions, including jobs at the Logan Township facility. 42 Freeway pointed out that the distance from Cranford and Fairfield means many of those workers are not expected to relocate. That leaves most of the roughly 550 positions to be filled from closer to home.
The Inquirer also put the move in the context of Wonder's growth around Philadelphia: 12 new sites across the city and its surrounding counties in 2025, and a stated goal of serving every part of the broader region.
Where Wonder's food halls are on this side of the river
The Commerce Boulevard building is a production plant, not a restaurant. Wonder's location list for South Jersey includes three food halls within driving distance of Logan:
- Cherry Hill: 2050 Route 70, in the Garden State Park shopping center
- Mount Laurel: 127 Ark Road
- Marlton: 500 Route 73 South
42 Freeway also reported a planned Wonder location in Washington Township, and said the consolidation did not appear to affect any of the food halls. Wonder's own job listing describes its format as dishes from more than 20 in-house restaurants, available for dine-in, pickup or delivery. Neither the company nor news coverage has said which halls the Logan plant will supply.
The dates still ahead
For anyone keeping track of the building, a few dates are still coming:
- November 2026: Wonder's planned opening at 1130 Commerce Blvd., per its September statements
- November 17, 2026: The effective date on HelloFresh's WARN filing, as listed in the state archive
- January 8, 2027: The end of the job-loss window on Wonder's North Jersey WARN filing, the last of the moves that send production to Logan
When the Inquirer reported the HelloFresh closure, it could not reach a Logan Township spokesperson for comment.
